UO will name tennis court in honor of Alex Rovello
EUGENE The University of Oregon will honor the late Alex Rovello, a Ducks tennis star, will court in his name.
Rovello, a four-time state champion from Cleveland High, died in a May 11 diving accident in the Eugene area. He was 21 and had just finished his junior season with the Ducks.
The naming ceremony at the UO Student Tennis Center will take place on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 3 to 5 p.m.
It is very important to honor the legacy of Alex Rovello and to make sure that it lives on, Oregon tennis coach Nils Schyllander. Alex gave so much to Oregon tennis and to tennis in the entire Pacific Northwest, but more importantly, he gave so much as a person. He will always be loved, and never forgotten.
Schyllander and assistant Ducks coach Jonas Piibor announced Thursday that the center court on the north side of the Student Tennis Center - where Rovello played all of his indoor matches throughout his career – will be named in his honor.
Rovello accumulated 60 career singles wins and 53 doubles victories in three seasons at Oregon.
To honor Alex with his own court is the most concrete way for us to show our love for him," Piibor said. Alexs spirit will now forever live in the hearts of every UO tennis player.
