TriMet rider apps launch Wednesday
TriMet will become the first transit agency in the county to offer mobile apps for both bus and train riders this week.
Starting Wednesday, free TriMet Ticket apps can be dowloaded for both Android and iPhones from their app stores. Riders can then register their accounts, load their credit or debit card information into the secure systems, and use their smart phones as their tickets when boarding buses, MAX and WES trains.
To celebrate the event, TriMet is inviting the public to a launch party at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Portland State University's Urnan Center Plaza, located on Southwest Montgomery Street between 5th and 6th avenues. TriMet staff, app developers from GlobeSherpa and beta testers will be on hand to help customers download their apps.
Music and refreshments will also be featured.
The apps are on part of a multi-year project by TriMet to offer more boarding options to riders. Also under developmennt are so-called tap cards, similar to those already accepted by some retailers.
