Pearl Court fire injures two
Two men were injured Tuesday afternoon when their Pearl District apartment caught fire.
The men were treated for burns and smoke inhalation at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. Their names were not released.
Portland Fire & Rescue officials said the fire in a fourth-floor apartment at the Pearl Court complex, 920 N.W. Kearney St., began at about 2:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they found Portland police officers outside of the fourth-floor apartment trying to get inside as smoke poured from the front door.
Inside, firefighters heard the screams of two men, between ages 40 and 50, who were unable to get out. One of the men is legally blind and has a guide dog, which was not injured.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire that was limited to the apartments kitchen.
Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause.
