SERT officer hurt during training accident


A member of the Portland Police Bureau's Special Emergency Reaction Team was injured Wednesday morning when a flashbang grenade he was holding exploded, causing a non-life-threatening hand injury.

The SERT officer was transported to an area hospital. His name was not immediately released. He is a 23-year bureau veteran.

The incident occurred during a training exercise. The bureau is conducting a review of the incident to determine how it occurred.
