Crosswalk enforcement action takes a walk on E. Burnside St.
Why did the police officer cross the road? To raise awareness of pedestrian safety and traffic laws.
Beginning Wednesday afternoon, July 31, the Portland Bureau of Transportation and Portland Police Bureau will begin a crosswalk enforcement action on East Burnside Street to remind drivers of the laws about pedestrian safety.
The enforcement action will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the marked crossing on East Burnside Street at 16th Avenue. Drivers who dont stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk may be issued a warning or citation.
The city conducts crosswalk enforcement actions about once a month.
Burnside Street has been identified by the transportation bureau as one of 10 high-crash corridors.
