Salvation Army food boxes ready for local families
About 800 local families will get boxes of food beginning Wednesday morning as part of a 2,400-box distribution by The Salvation Army and Feed the Childrens Americans Feeding Americans project.
The boxes, which will be distributed at the Eastport Plaza parking lot, 4000 S.E. 82nd Ave., beginning at 9 a.m., July 10, include food, hygiene and household products. The distribution continues until 2 p.m. Eligible families will need to present a voucher in order to receive boxes.
The 2,400 boxes are loaded into two semi-trucks for distribution throughtout the day. The pre-packaged boxes have canned foods and other non-perishable items, household products such as paper towels and toilet paper, hygiene items like soap and deodorant, household cleaners and more.
Staff and around 80 volunteers, many from Wells Fargo Bank, will help the distribution. Families can carry three boxes home with them.
The distribution is the latest stop on Feed The Children's Americans Feeding Americans Caravan, which has helped more than 100,000 families across the country in cities that have been affected by the nation's economic downturn. Feed The Children is planning similar distributions throughout the rest of the year.
