Climber died in fall on Mount Hood

The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office has confirmed that Dr. Kinley Adams died from multiple injuries sustained in a fall on Mount Hood.

The body of Dr. Kinley Adams was recovered from the Sandy Glacier yesterday around 6 p.m. Monday after a highly technical mission. He was returned to the search base and then transported to the Clackamas County Medical Examiner's Office.

Adams, a 59-year-old Salem dentist, had been missing since June 23 when he went to Mount Hood and attempted to climb the Leuthold Coulour. Bad weather complicated search efforts.

A body was finally spotted at approximately 1:30 p.m. on June 29 by search crews working with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue. It was located near the Hood River County line near the top of the Sandy Glacier. The altitude was approximately 8,400 feet. There were no signs of life.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office released a statement thanking Portland Mountain Rescue, Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue, AMR Reach and Treat, Mountain Wave Communications, the Oregon Army National Guard, and the 304th for their involvement in the recovery of Dr. Adams.
