Buddhists plan environmental action event on Mother's Day


Organizers of the Dalai Lama’s visit to Portland are planning a Green Action Day on Mother’s Day at Pioneer Courthouse Square.

Also billed as an environmental summitt, the event will be held from noon to 5 p.m. It will feature interactive booths, activities tailored to mothers, a Tibetan prayer flag hanging ceremony and live music.

Speakers include nature writer Kathleen Dean Moore, poet Kim Stafford, Andrea Durbin of Oregon Environmental Council, Jane Gray of City Repair, and Yangsi Rinpoche, president of Maitripa College, the Buddhist college based in Portland that is hosting the Dalai Lama’s visit.

Musical performers include Jerry Joseph and Jenny Conlee, Mike Clark and Ralf Youtz, and Coldwater.
