Power outages strand MAX trains downtown
TriMet technicians are working to restore power to downtown MAX trains that were stopped early Monday morning by power outages in the central business district.
TriMet officials said some power had been restored by about 7:30 a.m. to parts of downtown and a train was circling the Transit Mall on Fifth and Sixth avenues between Portland State University and Union Station.
Technicians were focusing most of their efforts at restoring power to the Rose Quarter and the Steel Bridge.
TriMet reported that outages at several substations brought MAX trains to a halt downtown. One train blocked Fifth Avenue at Morrison or Yamhill streets during part of the outage.
Because of the outage, trains were not running from Jeld-Wen Field to the Hollywood Transit Center. The Portland Streetcar service also was affected, but was restored by about 7:30 a.m.
TriMet Blue Line trains were running from Hillsboro to Jeld-Wen Field and from Hollywood to Gresham. Red Line trains were running between Beaverton Transit Center and Jeld-Wen Field and from Gateway Transit Center to Portland International Airport. Green Line trains were running from Hollywood to Clackamas Town Center. Yellow Line trains were running from Interstate/Rose Quarter to the Expo Center.
