TriMet driver stabbed in SE Portland

Police are investigating the stabbing of a TriMet bus driver in the Lents neighborhood late Saturday.

Brian Nixon, 35, suffered a non-life-threatening stab wound to the leg. He was treated at an area hopsital and is expected to recover.

In a prepared statement issued Sunday, TriMet said, "Our thoughts are with the operator hurt in the assault last night in Southeast Portland. While we are thankful that the physical injury sustained by the operator was minor and he is reportedly doing well, such senseless acts are disturbing. TriMet is providing full cooperation and assistance to police in their efforts to catch the man responsible so he will not be able to hurt anyone else in our community."

The suspect was not immediately apprehended. He is described as an African-American male in his 30s, 5'9" tall, with a beard and wearing a black and red coat, brown pants, and a stocking cap. He may be a transient.

According to police, at approximately 11:00 p.m. on April 20, East Precinct officers responded to the report of a stabbing at Southeast 92nd Avenue and Flavel Street. As the officers were enroute, they learned that the victim was a TriMet bus operator and that the suspect ran into the neighborhood after the stabbing.

When the officers arrived in the area and contacted the victim, he told them that he was using the portable restroom for TriMet when he heard banging on the door. The victim opened the door and was stabbed in leg by another man, who demanded to use the restroom. After the stabbing, the suspect ran away into the neighborhood.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Assault Detail at (503) 823-0400.
