Shoemaker KEEN hires new president Steve Meineke from Accell North America

KEEN the outdoorsy footwear, bag and clothing maker, has hired Steve Meineke as president starting June 1, 2014. Meineke has a thirty year track record in athletic and outdoor products.

by: KEEN - Steve Meineke is the new president of KEENHe spent the last two years as CEO at Accell North America, a global leader in bicycles, gear and parts. He was President of Raleigh America, Inc. from February, 2004 to April, 2012. He also led Mission Hockey from 1996 to 2002, Specialized Bicycle Components from 1993 to 1996 and was President of Nordica USA form 1990 – 1993. His career began as Global Marketing Manager of Salomon North America, in 1980.

The two decade-old KEEN is touting its new approaches in R&D and its own manufacturing to control the supply chain.

“I could not be more honored to join this great team to drive the next era of the KEEN brand, which will capture the imagination of today’s diverse consumer who looks to maximize their experience from the trail to the city,” Meineke said. He does snow sports, biking and stand-up paddleboard.

The previous president, Mike Abbott, lasted one month, quitting in June 2012. Founder Rory Fuerst has run the company since then.

“We’ve built a solid foundation for KEEN as we enter our second decade and we need the right leader to pull all of our initiatives together and drive the business forward,” said Ron Hill, VP of product merchandising and marketing at KEEN. “He has proven success in diverse businesses with teams around the world and comes to KEEN with a brand-building skill set that we really can capitalize on.”

KEEN products are in over 5,000 retail location as well as in KEEN Garage retail stores in Portland, Palo Alto, Tokyo, Prague and Toronto.
