Mariners' bats get best of Texas again
Mike Zunino homered twice and Jean Segura also homered and Mike Leake scattered five hits over 5 2/3 innings as Seattle beat Texas 8-1 Wednesday at Arlington, Texas.
Felix Hernandez returns to the mound as the Mariners (73-73) and Rangers (72-73) play the series finale at 5 p.m. Thursday. Andrew Cashner (9-9, 3.19). Hernandez (5-4, 4.28) has not pitched since July 31 because of a shoulder injury.
Zunino hit a solo homer and Segura a two-run shot in the fifth inning as Seattle took a 3-0 lead off Texas starter Martin Perez.
Kyle Seager added a two-run single and Danny Valencia a sacrifice fly, and then Zunino hit another solo homer in the seventh, giving him 23 on the season.
Leake (3-0) gave up five hits and one run while striking out five and walking in his 5 2/3 innings pitched. Four relievers held the home team hitless the rest of the way.
The Mariners have won two of the first three games at Texas.
After playing the Rangers on Thursday, the Mariners travel to Houston for a three-game series.
