Hoss was a 6-8, 235-pound tight end at Oregon State, via West Linn, who played one season (1972) with the NFL Philadelphia Eagles, appearing in four games.
Hoss retired from teaching social studies at West Linn High after the 2012-13 school year.
He was a star for the Lions in the 1960s, graduating in 1967.
He played football and basketball and toiled in various pro football endeavors, including stints with World Football League teams, the Portland Storm among them. The New England Patriots drafted him in the seventh round, No. 165 overall, in 1972.
He began teaching and coaching football at West Linn High in 1976, specializing in U.S. history.
