IN PHOTOS: Payton's Place, again

The crowd at Gill Coliseum gave Payton a standing ovation as fans saluted his recent induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame during halftime of the OSU-Cal game.

Payton, who played for the Beavers from 1986-90, remains the school's all-time leader in points (2,172), assists (938) and, of course, steals (3221).

The Oakland, Calif., product led the Beavers to three NCAA Tournament berths and was a consensus All-American and Sports Illustrated national player of the year in 1990.

Fellow Hall of Famers John Stockton and George Gervin presented Payton at the induction ceremony last September.

"GP" also was honored last Saturday by a commemorative GP glove, a gift to the first 2,000 fans at Gill.

Payton's son, Gary II, plans to attend Oregon State after growing up in Las Vegas.
