Royals deal Hawks fourth straight loss

Victoria Royals 3, PORTLAND WINTERHAWKS 2

Saturday night, Memorial Coliseum, 6,132 announced attendance

HIGHLIGHTS

Portland controlled play for much of the third period but couldn't catch Victoria.

The Royals took a 3-1 lead on Steven Hodges' goal with 3:20 remaining, and all Portland could do was cut into that deficit with a goal inside the final minute.

WHAT IT MEANS

The Winterhawks have lost four games in a row.

TOP PERFORMERS

• Dominic Turgeon tied the score at 1-1 with his goal at 18:34 of the first period, and Layne Viveiros scored with 25 seconds left in the game after Portland pulled its goalkeeper.

• Portland goalie Jarron Schamerhorn, starting after first-stringer Brendan Burke was hurt Friday night at Tri-City, made 23 saves.

NOTES

• The Hawks signed goalie Steve Myland after Burke's injury. Myland, 19, played in six total games over the past two seasons for Swift Current.

KEY STATS

• Coleman Vollrath, Victoria goaltender, made 37 saves.
