The Trail Blazers, three years away from making the NBA finals for the first time since 1977, take on the Los Angeles Lakers in a New Year's Day game at Memorial Coliseum.
Or, shall we say, the Lakers take on the Blazers.
Los Angeles, led by the starting lineup of stars Magic Johnson, Byron Scott, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy and A.C. Green, along with sub Michael Cooper and others, thrashes the Blazers 140-104.
L.A. improves to 23-6 atop the Western Conference.
Portland starts Terry Porter, Clyde Drexler, Kenny Carr, Kiki Vandeweghe and Steve Johnson, with Jerome Kersey, Jim Paxson, Kevin Duckworth, Michael Holton and Caldwell Jones in reserve.
The Blazers remain second to the Lakers in the Pacific Division, as Portland's record falls to 19-13.
