English was one of the original Trail Blazers, drafted in the seventh round (No. 110 overall) before Portland's inaugural 1970-71 season.
English played college ball at Rhode Island, where he averaged 19.5 points and 13 rebounds per game as a senior, but a knee injury suffered while there slowed him in the pros.
A 6-4, 190-pound guard, he lasted one season in the NBA, appearing in 18 games for the expansion Blazers.
His best game came March 11, 1971 against the Baltimore Bullets he scored seven points, making all three of his field-goal attempts.
Today, he is athletic director at Park University in Parkville, Mo.
