COLLEGE HOOPS: Pilots lose to Montana State; Beavers roll to 5-2
Montana State snapped the University of Portland's win streak at three on Sunday afternoon, beating the Pilots 72-69 at Chiles Center.
It was a close game throughout, with the Bobcats making an 8-0 run in the first half after trailing 26-15.
Kevin Bailey scored 26 points for UP, and Ryan Nicholas had 15 points and 15 rebounds.
The Pilots slipped to 6-4, while Montana State improved to 4-5.
Nicholas, who leads the West Coast Conference in rebounding, has four double-doubles this season and is averaging 10.1 rebounds and 13.2 points per game.
Marcus Colbert was MSU's top scorer with 19 points.
Portland concludes its nonconference schedule with games at Las Vegas next weekend. The Pilots will play Bradley at 5 p.m. Friday and Princeton at 8 p.m. Saturday in the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic at South Point Arena.
At Corvallis, Oregon State rode its 1-2 punch of Roberto Nelson and Devon Collier to a 98-66 victory Sunday afternoon over Maryland Eastern Shore.
Collier had 24 points and 12 rebounds, and Nelson scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half, adding four rebounds and four assists.
OSU improved to 5-2, and MES fell to 2-5.
Angus Brandt made 6 of 9 shots from the field to add 17 points for the Beavers, who made 51.5 percent from the floor.
Oregon State's next game is back at Gill Coliseum against Towson at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
