COLLEGE SOCCER: Concordia advances to NAIA quarterfinals

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — No. 1-ranked Concordia University advanced in the NAIA playoffs on Monday with a 2-0 second-round victory over No. 10 St. Thomas (Fla.).

The fourth-seeded Cavaliers improved to 19-1-1 and will play in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Their opponent will be the winner of Tuesday's game between No. 5 seed Embry-Riddle of Florida and 12th seed William Carey of Mississippi.

St. Thomas, the 13th seed in the 16-team national tourney, finished with a 17-2-1 record.

SCOTTThe Cavs scored in each half. Hannah Scott put them in front with a finish in the 26th minute off a feed from Erin Hulsingh, and Alex Blalock added a goal in the 82nd minute off Sam Johnson's long through-ball.

Shots were 14-13 in Concordia's favor, with St. Thomas outshooting the Cavs 11-6 after halftime, and each team had seven corner kicks.

St. Thomas goalie Ariana Lorenzo made four saves, while Concordia's Olivia Brock had one against one of NAIA's top offenses.
