The Portland Interscholastic League, up to 12 teams with the addition of the Jackson Raiders, prepares to opens a 22-game league basketball season.

None of the teams will play a nonleague game.

The first match-ups, as reported at the time, will have Jackson at home against "arch-rival" Wilson, 1965-66 PIL runner-up Lincoln at Cleveland, "powerful" Grant at "respected" Madison, Benson at Washington, Franklin at Jefferson, and Roosevelt at Marshall.
