Captain Taylor Leier scored the winning goal on a power play late in the second period (16:11), and Brendan Burke stopped all 15 shots he faced in the third period.

Portland, which has won eight in a row, took over first place in the Western Hockey League Western Conference. The Hawks passed Spokane and lead the Chiefs, Everett and Seattle by one point. Portland finished this stretch of road games 5-0-0-0.
