Wednesday sports lineup

Ducks football faces the music; Timbers at Dallas in Open Cup quarterfinals; Hops play 2 at Boise; junior golfers vie at Heron Lakes


NCAA ON DUCKS

7:30 a.m. — The NCAA is scheduled to release its findings and sanctions related to its investigation of the Oregon Ducks football program.

TIMBERS

6 p.m. PT — It's back to Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup competition for Portland.

The Timbers are at FC Dallas Stadium to face their fellow MLS side in a quarterfinal match.

Other quarterfinal games: New England Revolution at D.C. Untied, Orlando City (USL PRO) at Chicago Fire, and Carolina RailHawks (NASL) at Real Salt Lake.

The Portland-Dallas winner will travel to face the Real Salt Lake-Carolina winner on Wednesday, Aug. 7.

HOPS

5:15 p.m. — Hillsboro and the Boise Hawks— rained out on Tuesday — will open their three-game series with a doubleheader at Boise's Memorial Stadium.

Both teams are trying to climb in the Class A Northwest League. Boise is third in the four-team South division at 4-7, Hillsboro last at 3-8 despite a plus-six run differential.

Boise (Chicago Cubs affiliate) is 1-2 at home, Hillsboro (Arizona Diamondbacks) 1-7 away.

GOLF

All day — The Oregon Junior Amateur swings into its second day of match play at Heron Lakes.

In the boys division, Harry Kim will meet fellow Portlander Daniel Rerrell in the quarterfinals. Both won opening matches 3 and 2 in Tuesday's round of 16.

The girls quarterfinals today will feature Beaverton's Gigi Stoll against Kaitlin Collom of Klamath Falls. Stoll advanced Tuesday with a 4 and 3 victory over Amanda Elich of West Linn.

Also Tuesday, Salem's Deanna Salvatori knocked off defending champion Hannah Swanson of Forest Grove 2 up, and Portland's Phoebe Nguyen moved into the quarterfinals by topping Haleigh Krause of Eugene 1 up. Nguyen plays today against Bend standout Madison Odiorne.
