Thorns get into the Spirit

Seven games, five wins, one tie, three shutouts.

That's the Portland Thorns FC season in a nutshell, up to date after Sunday afternoon's 2-0 home win over the Washington Spirit.

The Thorns' one-two punch of strikers Christine Sinclair and Alex Morgan produced both goals, with Sinclair scoring in the 41st minute and Morgan connecting in the 86th minute.

Karina LeBlanc for Portland made three saves before the announced crowd of 12,474 at Jeld-Wen Field.

The Thorns (5-1-1, 16 points) remained tied for the lead in the first-year National Women's Soccer League. Sharing the lead still is Sky Blue FC, also 5-1-1 after a 3-0 road win Sunday over the Seattle Reign FC.

The Spirit fell to 1-3-3, six points, with their second loss to the Thorns (the other was 2-1 at Washington on May 4).

Portland's next game is 7 p.m. Saturday against Seattle at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Wash.
