Dani Battles remains in a coma from brain injuries

Family seeks financial support

by: CONTRIBUTED - Danielle Battles, 22, remains in a coma after a serious car accident. A donation fund has been set up at US Bank and a fundraiser is planned at noon Saturday, Dec. 21, at Hitchin Post Pizza to raise money for Battles' medical bills and recovery.Danielle “Dani” Battles of Estacada remains in a coma after a serious car accident, in which her car collided with a trailer hauling Christmas trees on Springwater Road the morning of Sunday, Nov. 24.

A press release issued by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office alluded that speed and cell phone use contributed to the wreck.

Life Flight transported Battles, 22, to Oregon Health and Science University. The occupants of the trailer were not injured.

Battles remains hospitalized with traumatic brain injuries.

“Danielle (or Dani) remains in a coma at OHSU although there have been minimal improvements: coughing, yawning, moving her toes, fingers and hand and the eye on the right dilates and moves behind the eyelid from time to time,” Monica White wrote in an email. White is Battles’ stepmother.

“Although the neurological team at OHSU is not hopeful regarding her condition, the family remains strong. We are a very tight loving family and our strong belief in God and his ability to heal Dani is our strength. We remain hopefully that Dani will return to us.”

White said that Battles’ mounting medical bills were causing the family financial strain.

“Because Dani is in the (intensive care unit) and flowers and gifts are not allowed in the unit, we have established a donation fund through US Bank in the name of Danielle Battles to raise the funds that Dani will need to cover the costs to fully recover from her injury and for people to show their love and support,” White wrote.

Donations may be made in the name of “Danielle Battles” to any US Bank branch.

There also will be a fundraiser at noon Saturday, Dec. 21, at Hitchin’ Post Pizza, 458 S.W. Second Ave. Part of the proceeds will go to Battles’ recovery.
