Bob Ray Wightman

August 6, 1931 - January 27, 2014 -

Bob Ray Wightman, 82, of Canby, died Jan. 27, 2014, in Oregon City at Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 6, 1931, in Braymer, Mo., to Hugh and Margaret Wightman.

He attended Braymer Grade School until the fifth grade and graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1948.

After attending tech school for a year, he entered the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and was stationed at Wiesbaden, Germany, where he served in photo intelligence.

On Feb. 14, 1957, he married Doris Howard in North Hollywood, Calif.

After the service, he worked in the photo industry in Hollywood, Calif., for 20 years and moved to Canby in 1976. He was self-employed and then went to work for the Columbian newspaper in Vancouver, Wash., in 1979, retiring in 1995.

Photography was his lifelong work and hobby. He was a member of the Canby American Post.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Katy Horstman, of Mesa, Ariz.; son, Robert, of Arlington, Tenn.; sister, Sharon Schowengerdt, of Olathe, Kan.; brother, Tom, of Everett, Wash.; stepmother, Wilda Boxx, of Braymer, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

An open house was held in his honor.
