Lewis M. Nelson

Lewis M. Nelson, of Canby, died January 26, 2014. He was born January 21, 1923 in Orient, S.D. to Oscar and Ethel Nelson. He lived in Orient, S.D. until 1938 when he moved with his parents to Portland, OR. Lewis was the youngest of 5 boys. He married Virginia M. Nelson in 1947 in Portland; he served in the Army during WWII at various locations including combat in Europe. In 1948 he and Virginia moved to Pendleton where they built and operated Memory Lane Motel, Restaurant and Trailer court. In 1963 they sold the business and he worked at Blue Mountain Community College until his retirement. 25 years ago Lewis and Virginia moved to Canby where they remained. He was a member of Canby New Life Four Square Church.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law; Ron and Christine Nelson, of Redmond, daughter and son-in-law; Nancy and Rich Birkemeier, of Canby, daughter-in-law; MaryAnn Schultz, of Milwaukie, brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Don and Nancy Humphries, of Park Rose, 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Dan, in 1972 and his wife of 66 years, Virginia, in October 2013.
His service will be Thursday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. at Canby New Life Four Square Church, 503-266-4444. The family requests in lieu of flowers or donations that you tell someone close, you love them.
