Emerson 'Monte' Thwing, Sr.

July 15, 1939 — April 20, 2014

Emerson “Monte” Thwing, Sr., age 74, beloved husband to Rosi [Bentley] Thwing for 15 years, passed away April 20, 2014 gently and peacefully in our home in Dundee, Ore., surrounded by his family, books and music. Rosi and Monte moved to Dundee in July of 2006 to be closer to family.

Monte was born July 15, 1939 in Seattle, Wash., to Emerson Myron and Marjorie [Brown] Thwing. He graduated from Hayward High School in Hayward, Calif., in 1957 and served in the United States Navy from 1957-1961 on board the USS Kawishiwi.

He retired from the hi-tech world in San Jose, Calif.

He volunteered at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville, Ore., for the past seven years. He was extremely knowledgeable about aircraft and happy to share that knowledge with anyone!

He was an avid reader and collector of books! He could read as many as four books a month. His greatest peace was listening to Pink, Janis Joplin, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Beatles, The Grateful Dead. Blues! Jazz! Classical! Classic Rock was his favorite genre of all, but his collection covers many. At times he even endured Rosi’s country music! The Beatles sang him home ....!

He loved going to big screen worthy movies. The latest was Avatar – we went three times to see it in an IMAX theatre and later several times at home.

Monte leaves behind so many friends near and far and will be greatly missed.

His family includes his sister Karen Smith from Sumner, Wash., and her family Debbie Phillips and husband Jeff and their family Nicole, Taylor, Kari, Myles, Danielle, Maddie, Rob, Alec, Conner, and Drew from Buckley, Wash.; his nephew Vance Valin and Alice Gervais and their family Megan, Tyler and Tanner from Marysville, Wash.; his daughter Kristine Crawford and Jim Coen of Buckley, Wash.; grandson Christopher and Jen Crawford from Tacoma, Wash.; his son Emerson Monte Thwing Jr. and Pam Geidt, her son Troy from San Jose, Calif.; sister-in-law Marian Thomas and husband Philip and family Kelsey Deming, husband Ian and nephew Brian Thomas; brother-in-law Ralph Bentley and wife Linda from Dayton, Ore.; stepdaughter Richelle Cohen Abad and family Michael Cohen and Krystal Abad and first great-granddaughter Evelyn Skye from Golden Valley, Minn.; stepson Jimmy Brooker and his wife Loretta and their family Darin, Emily, and Sunny Johnson from Leavenworth, Wash., and Shawn Johnson from McMinnville, Ore.; and acquired son Eric Leonard from Newberg, Ore.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, please make a donation to your local independent bookstore and then have a root beer shake in his honor.

Rest in Peace my Champion. Fingertip kisses forever.
