M. Darlene Jaeger

Marian Darlene Jaeger, 92, of Condon, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 in her home. A graveside service was held June 23 at the Condon Cemetery at the United Church of Christ fellowship hall.
She was born in Dixon City, Ill. March 28, 1922, the daughter of Ralph and Verna Dockery Witmer. Darlene was raised and attended schools in Rockford, Ill.
Darlene enjoyed life for many years as a wife and mother on the wheat and cattle ranch in the southwest corner of Gilliam County called the Buckhorn Place. It was located about 20 miles southwest of Condon.
She worked for a time with the United States Postal Service and also was owner and operator of a Hallmark store in Woodburn. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church in Condon and Immanuel Lutheran in Woodburn.
Darlene also belonged to the Eastern Star, the Lady Elks, and the Daughters of the Nile, and for many years while on the ranch, she belonged to the Oregon Hereford Association. She also worked with the Rainbow Girls.
Darlene had many hobbies and interests. She was adventurous and traveled extensively by land, sea and air, and was aboard the first Concorde transcontinental flight from New York to London. She toured and explored many continents in the world.
Darlene loved music and played the piano like a professional, and she also loved to dance. Playing pinochle and bridge with the neighbors was also one of her favorite pastimes, as well as horseback riding for work and pleasure.
Survivors include sons Steve (Joy) Jaeger, of Pendleton, Mike Jaeger, of Kennewick, Wash., daughter, Carolyn (John) Huffman, of Condon, nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry P. Jaeger, parents, and a brother, Maynard Witmer.
