Gary Allan Carlo

Gary Allan Carlo, age 69, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday November 10th, 2016 from complications of kidney failure.

Gary was born on December 17th, 1946 in Portland, Oregon to Frank and Ida Carlo of Portland.

He was a 1964 graduate of Cleveland High school. Gary traveled to California in 1966 to visit family who owned a delicatessen, this is where he discovered his dream of owning his own deli and catering business.

In 1968 Gary fell head over heels in love with Loraine Townsend who he married on May 23rd, 1970. Gary and Lori had a love for Mustang Rallies and Mustang clubs and always having a good time with friends and family.

They welcomed their first child Christi in 1974 and Cari soon after in 1975.

In October 1975 Gary and Lori, in partnership with best friends Jack and Barbara Garrison, opened The Deli Basket in Gresham Oregon. Their success lead to expanding to second deli on Swan Island in the early 80's. Even though Gary was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and type 2 diabetes, this did not stop Gary from running a successful deli and catering business, traveling, cruising and enjoying family and friends. Gary and Lori retired in December 2002.

Even after retirement, Gary involved himself in the community by working part time at Sheridan Fruit Company. Gary always had a knack for making people laugh and feel welcome.

Gary truly loved life thru the simple pleasures of good food, good conversation and good company.

Gary is survived by daughters Christi Carlo, Cari Loeb (Deon), Grandchildren Shelby and Jacob Loeb, and Sister Sharon Foster (Carlo), many nieces, nephews and cousins.
