Writing contest seeking submissions

Writers and poets across Yamhill County have the opportunity to share their work with a wider audience as the Paper Gardens Creative Writing Contest is accepting submissions for its annual competition and chapbook publication through March 1.

The contest is open to writers ages 6 and older and accepts writing in many different styles. Poetry in the traditional, free verse, haiku and poetry-of-place categories are accepted, while prose in the short story and creative nonfiction categories are also eligible. Writers can submit up to three poems for the contest and are limited to one prose entry. This year, poetry will be judged by Barbara Drake and prose by Lisa Ohlen Harris. Work will be judged in each category and by age group. The contest is produced by the Arts Alliance of Yamhill County and the chapbook has been printed annually for the past 25 years. Writers who are selected for the chapbook will receive a copy of the final product and will be invited to read their work at a celebration slated for May 3 at the Chehalem Cultural Center.

For more information or to submit work, visit www.arts allianceyamhillco.org or email paper gardensyamhill @gmail.com. There is a $10 entry fee for either one piece of prose or up to three poems.
