Registration for Newberg Youth Football players in grades 3-8 closes Sunday. Any players that do not meet the deadline will be placed on a waiting list. Eichten wins OGA junior tourney
Newberg High School junior Tori Eichten won the Oregon Golf Association Junior tournament Sunday at Kah-Nee-Ta Resort in Warm Springs. Opening with a front-side 37, Eichten finished at 9-over-par 82 to take medalist honors by six strokes over Iliana Teller of The Dalles. The win is Eichtens first OGA junior championship of the season and her second of her career.

Paddle Launch opens Saturday
The Chehalem Paddle Launch, located at 3100 SE Eighth St. in Dundee, will open for the season Saturday and remain open through Labor Day weekend. Kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddle boards are available for rent (along with life jackets, dry bags, whistles and safety instructions) and paddlers may put in their own crafts at no charge. Drop-ins are welcome, subject to craft availability. Reservations can be made by calling the CPRD registration desk at 503-537-2909.
Free swims Monday at the pool
The Chehalem Aquatic Center is inviting all community members to kick off summer with two free public swim sessions June 16. This free Summer Splash will run from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. All children 8 years and younger must be accompanied in the water by an adult. Two Tigers earn all-league baseball honors
Newbergs Tyler DeLashmutt and Nick Auld were both named to the all-Pacific Conference baseball team. A junior centerfielder, DeLashmutt was named to the first team. A senior pitcher who will play at George Fox University, Auld was named to the second team. DeLashmutt has also been selected to play in the second annual Futures Games, an all-star doubleheader that will be played July 3 at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer.
Cash named NWCs top sports information director
George Fox University sports information director Blair Cash was honored with the Jack Sareault Award as the Northwest Conferences sports information director of the year. This is the second time in five years that he has earned this honor in his 15-year stint with the Bruins. Cash has been a stalwart member of the Bruins athletic administration, working endless hours to cover 19 varsity sports and share the stories of the student athletes who wear blue and gold. In addition to his responsibilities, he is the official scorer for the Hillsboro Hops Minor League Baseball team and teaches in the schools religious studies department as an adjunct professor.
Six record aces at Chehalem Glenn
Five different players hit holes-in-one at Chehalem Glenn Golf Course in May. A.J. Gomez of Vancouver, Wash., got things started by acing hole No. 7 with an 8-iron from 150 yards May 1. On May 21, Newbergs Gene Wyatt recorded a hole-in-one on No. 16 with a pitching wedge from 122 yards. Dundee resident Brady OHalloran needed just one shot to finish No. 13, acing it from 98 yards with a pitching wedge May 27. Jake Leach of Salem used a 7-iron on his hole-in-one from 165 yards away on No. 5 May 30 and Beavertons Brent Brewer closed out the month by acing hole No. 13 from 98 yards out with a pitching wedge May 31. Newbergs Isaac Bowen picked up where the previous golfers left off, hitting his hole-in-one, also on No. 13 from 98 yards out with a pitching wedge, June 2.
Learn to swim at the aquatic center
Chehalem Aquatic Center is currently taking registration for the first session of summer swim lessons due to kick off June 16. Regular group (six children), small group (three children) and private (one child) sessions are available during the morning, afternoon or evening. Each lesson runs 30 minutes and classes are held Monday through Friday for two weeks (regular group) or for a single week (small group and private). Package prices begin at $45. Registration open for Pee Wee Sports Camps
Children ages 5 to 9 will have the opportunity to sample soccer, football, hockey, tennis and other sports at either of two sessions of the Chehalem Park and Recreation Districts Pee Wee Sports Camps at the Jaquith Park tennis courts. The first session will run from June 30 to July third, with the second scheduled for July 28-31. Campers will be introduced to these and other games while learning about teamwork, respect for themselves, and respect for others. All campers will receive a camp T-shirt. Cost is $50.
