Boys 18-U team defeats Lake Oswego 7-3 Sunday to capture the Oregon Spring League Championship
EUGENE Capped by a 7-3 win over Lake Oswego Water Polo Club, the Chehalem Water Polo 18-U boys team captured the Oregon Spring League Championship over the weekend at Amazon Park.
Chehalem led 3-1 at halftime and was set to carry that lead into the fourth quarter when Lake Oswego drew an exclusion and called time out to set up its offense with 20 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Snuffing out the threat and shifting the momentum back into Chehalems favor, Craig Beecher stole the first pass of the possession and raced down pool to score at the other end.
Beecher added another goal in the fourth and Cameron Kisling tallied two to put the game out of reach at 7-1.
The Chehalem girls finished the season in fourth place after falling 8-6 to Willamette Valley Water Polo in the third-place game in Eugene.
After knotting the game at 6-6 late in the fourth, Chehalem couldnt lock down on defense down the stretch.
CWP went 1-2 on the weekend, beating Eugene but losing to Bend and Willamette Valley.
Two weeks earlier, Chehalems 14-U boys A team won the Oregon Spring League title as well, earning wins over Bend, Eugene, Lake Oswego and Willamette Valley before facing and defeating Bend again in the title game.
