St. Paul girls track receives 2013 dual-meet honor

Every year since 1965, Who’s Who in Oregon Track and Field publishes a copious amount of stats and scores summarizing the previous season.

In a hypothetical competition to determine the best dual-meet teams in each classification, the magazine takes each school’s top three performers in each of the 15 individual events and two relays and scores countless mythical meets.

The publication recently published its 2013 review and determined that the St. Paul girls track team was the best dual-meet team, moving up from its eighth-place ranking in 2012.

Head coach Jess Turner was also named 1A girls coach of the year, but gave credit where credit is due.

“The Bucks are always competitors and this is a nice bit of recognition for what they do on the track, in the ring and getting over the bar,” Turner said. “I cannot imagine taking credit for their success since they perform consistently and with great presence. They well deserve all the kudos in this aspect.”

St. Paul has been ranked quite highly by the publication over the years, including head coach Todd Bos’ 2000 Bucks girls squad, which remains the best-ever girls dual meet team.

Bos’ 1999 team is also ranked eighth on the all-time list and it appears the tradition will continue.
