The George Fox University basketball teams collected just one win in four critical road games over the weekend, the lone victory coming from the men, who topped Whitman 98-95 Friday night.
The Bruins led by more than 20 points in the second half, but survived a furious rally to earn the win. GFU (14-8, 7-6 Northwest Conference) then fell 105-101 in overtime at league-leading Whitworth Saturday, falling into fifth place, one game out of a playoff spot.
The Bruin women had a harder time, falling 51-46 to the No. 2 Missionaries, essentially eliminating them from contention for the regular season title.
Things got worse Saturday as Whitworth knocked GFU (19-3, 10-3) down into third place with a 72-68 win.
Both Bruin teams squared off at home versus Lewis & Clark Tuesday (results unavailable at press time) and will finish the regular season with games at Puget Sound Friday and home to Willamette Saturday.
