ANTHEM, Ariz. — Led by righty Tom Zarosinski’s stellar effort in the opener, George Fox took two of three games at the Arizona Desert Classic at Boulder Creek High School Saturday and Sunday.

Zarosinski didn’t allow a hit through the first five innings against the University of the Redlands, lifting the Bruins to a 12-1 victory in the season opener Saturday.

The Bulldogs connected for three hits and a run in the sixth to break up the no-hit bid, but GFU had already posted all 12 of its runs by then.

The Bruins held a 2-1 lead over La Verne heading into the fifth inning of Saturday’s nightcap, but the Leopards rallied for four two-out runs to pin a 6-3 loss on former Newberg High School standout Sam Morland in his George Fox debut.

The Bruins bounced back Sunday, getting a combined seven RBIs from newcomers Zach Rapacz and Clay Mott to outlast Northwest Conference rival Whitman 11-9.
