GFU basketball games rescheduled

Last weekend’s George Fox University men’s and women’s basketball games versus Pacific and Lewis & Clark, cancelled due to inclement weather, have been rescheduled.

The Bruins travelled to Forest Grove to play the Boxers on Tuesday (results unavailable at press time) and will host the Pioneers Feb. 18.

The women’s game is set to tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m. GFU will also travel to Washington to play Whitman Friday and Whitworth Saturday.

Chehalem Glenn sees pair of aces

Two golfers recorded holes-in-one at Chehalem Glen Golf Course in the course of five days last month.

Peter Kozusko scored his ace with a 9-iron from 112 yards out on hole No. 16 Jan. 10. Steve Clouser also needed just one shot to complete No. 16, this time with a sand wedge from 105 yards out Jan. 14.

Bruins rise in track & field rankings

NAMPA, Idaho — Bolstered by outstanding efforts by Charity Arn and Maria Green in the women’s pentathlon Jan. 31-Feb.1 at the Ed Jacoby Indoor Invitational and Multi-Events in Nampa, Idaho, George Fox has jumped all the way to 30th in the latest NCAA Division III women’s national rankings by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Bruins accumulated a total of 29.05 points in the national rankings, based on the standings of four athletes listed in the USTFCCCA’s top 50 national qualifying lists.  George Fox is the highest-ranked team in the national standings from the Northwest Conference.

Arn’s 3,547 points in the pentathlon, a new George Fox record and the seventh-best score in D-III history, ranks third in the nation. Green’s 3,335 points are fifth in Bruin history and seventh nationally.

Bachmeier drives in run in college debut

BROWNWOOD, Texas — Newberg High School graduate Margaret Bachmeier went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk while playing right field in the Pacific University softball team’s season opening win over Austin College Saturday. It was the sophomore’s college debut after taking a year off from softball as a freshman.

NHS starting a dressage team

Newberg High School will form a dressage team this spring and all area students, even if they don’t attend NHS, will be eligible to participate.
