Swim lessons start up next week


The Chehalem Aquatic Center is accepting registration for a variety of programs, including group, home-school, private and Friday night swim lessons, as well as American Red Cross water safety instructor training.

Group swim lessons will run on Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday for two and a half weeks, with morning, afternoon and evening sessions available. Classes begin Jan. 13. Cost is $45 for CPRD residents and $55 for non-residents.

Home school lessons take place in a small group and meet from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for five total lessons beginning Jan. 14. Cost is $45/$55.

The popular Friday night swim lessons run once a week for five weeks, with each class lasting 45 minutes with a maximum of four children per class. Preschool 1-3 and Level 1-6 classes are offered. Cost is $46/$56.

Private one-on-one swim lessons run twice a week — either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday Thursday — for either five or 10 sessions. Cost is $80 and participants must contact the aquatic center to be placed on the appointment list.

The 12-week American Red Cross water safety instructor training program trains candidates to teach infant, preschool and school age learn-to-swim programs, basic water rescue and Longfellow’s Whale Tales courses. Upon completion of this course the successful candidate will receive a nationally-recognized Red Cross water safety instructor certification. The course meets once a week from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning Jan 15 and ending April 9. Strong swimmers ages 16 years and older are welcome to sign up with a pre-course evaluation taking place the first evening. Cost is $175 for district residents.
