Youth basketball tryouts begin Sunday
The Chehalem Park and Recreation District is accepting registration for its youth basketball programs and will host tryouts on Sunday and Oct. 6 at Newberg High School. Players in fifth through eighth grades will tryout for teams competing in the Three Rivers League (TRL). Boys in fifth and sixth grades will tryout from 3 to 5 p.m., while seventh and eighth graders will go from 3 to 5:30 p.m., both in the main gym.
Girls will tryout in the auxiliary gym, with players in grades five and six going from 3 to 5 p.m. and seventh and eighth graders going from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Fifth and sixth grade players that dont participate in the TRL may play in the Junior Tiger league, with a team placement clinic on Nov. 16. Each player must attend a minimum of one try-out to be eligible. Registration for the TRL is $149 per player and teams are responsible for uniforms. A non-refundable tryout fee of $20 must be paid before a player can participate, but will be applied to the registration fee if placed on a team. The remaining balance of the fee must be paid by Oct. 15 in order to be placed on a team. Players who will not be participating in the TRL will have their player fees applied for registration in the Junior Tiger basketball program, with all overpayments being refunded.
