NHS girls hoops hosts pair of fundraisers

The Newberg High School girls basketball team will host two fundraisers this week to support its tournament trip during winter break.

The Tigers will be helping to serve and bus tables at Ye Old Pizza all day Thursday, with 15 percent of the sales going to the team.

Tamie Woginrich’s squad will also host a rummage sale and car wash from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Newberg Tire Factory.

Newberg football to hit the airwaves

Radio station KLYC 126 AM will once again broadcast both Newberg and McMinn­ville High School games this fall, including the battle between the Tigers and Grizzlies in Newberg Sept. 13.

KLYC will also broadcast Newberg’s season opener at home versus North Salem Aug. 30, the Sept. 27 home contest versus Tualatin, the Oct. 11 home tilt versus Forest Grove and the road game at Tigard Oct. 18.

All games start at 7 p.m., preceded by a pre-game show at 6:45.

Chehalem Glenn sees four aces

Four players have recorded holes-in-one at Chehalem Glenn Golf Course recently, beginning with George Fox University player Megan McGrew’s ace of No. 5 with a 5-wood from 165 yards out July 7.

Mark Marrow, of Newberg, followed suit just three days later, hitting a hole-in-one on the same hole, this time with a 6-iron from 162 yards away.

Jay Wolf, of Keizer, then aced hole No. 13 from 98 yards with a pitching wedge July 25. New Mexico resident Timothy Bowers picked up the final hole-in-one on hole No. 16 with a pitching wedge from 115 yards out Aug. 3.
