Support Habitat while choirs serenade you
Newberg Area Habitat for Humanity officials hope the community will support the Christian housing ministry by attending an upcoming event, and while at it have a good time and be entertained.
Billed as a Variety Concert in Aid of Habitat for Humanity, the event centers around performances by a quartet of choirs — The Patriarchs from Friendsview Retirement Community, the Veritas Chamber Singers, Vocal Point from Newberg High School and the Prime Time singers from the Chehalem Senior Center — as well as story time by Marvia Boettcher of Friendsview and music from Janet Lyda.
The fundraiser was organized by Habitat officials in conjunction with the Rev. Lionel Muthiah, who will also deliver the opening prayer after Rick Rogers, Habitat's executive director, welcomes the attendees. There will be a hymn, a benediction and a time for prayer as well.
This is the first time Habitat has held this event, said Erika Pagel, the organization's volunteer coordinator. In the past, she said, the organization has held a concert featuring a group of handbell ringers.
All the proceeds from the event, which come via a goodwill offering, will go toward what Pagel said was the organization's primary mission: "Eliminate substandard housing in our community."
The concert is expected to run for 60 to 90 minutes and is set for 4 p.m. Nov. 18 in the Drea Ferguson Auditorium at Newberg High School.
