Gallery features mixed media artist
"Lost Blooms," the creations of artist April Flanders, are on display now at the Lindgren Gallery at George Fox University.
According to a press release, Flanders combines printmaking, painting, drawing and installation to create her work, which has been featured in group shows and galleries nationally and internationally.
A native of the mountains of western North Carolina, Flanders is a naturalist whose work concentrates on the problem of invasive plants and animals on a global scale.
"Any system is interconnected; small changes have huge impact," she said in her artist's statement. "Within the system that connects humans to nature, we are the vehicle for the destruction of balance. While non-native organisms provide novel interest and unique beauty, the natural controls that would normally keep them in check are missing. The result is an imbalance in the delicate equilibrium of our ecosystems."
A reception for Flanders was held Oct. 23 at the gallery and she held at talk about her work that evening at the Chehalem Cultural Center. Her work will remain at the Lindgren Gallery through Nov. 28. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or by appointment.
