Air Force Band will fly into Newberg at Bauman
Free concert slated for June 9 and will feature a variety of musical genres
The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West Concert Band is soaring into Newberg with a free concern June 9.
Captain Jason Plosch will lead the 50 professional musicians from Travis Air Force Base in California performing a variety of music, including standard symphonic pieces, marches, jazz and pop favorites, patriotic literature and pieces straight from Broadway.
The group tours the western United States including California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Arizona, supporting the Air Force mission by providing outstanding musical products and services for official military, recruiting, and community relations events, and by fostering Americas rich national heritage, according to a press release.
The concert will feature Airman First Class Alaina Pritz performing the Artie Shaw Clarinet concerto, a tribute to the British Invasion with the Blue Yonders, an Irish-bluegrass folk ensemble from within the band, as well as vocalists Airman First Class George Brahler and Master Sergeant Paula Goetz.
Held in the Bauman Auditorium at George Fox University, the concert is free but still requires a ticket, available at the Chehalem Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Chehalem Aquatic Center. The concert starts at 7 p.m. and is touted as entertainment for the entire family.
