Newberg FFAs state contingent growing
Clubs Four individuals and one team advance from the FFA Sectional meet to the State Convention
INDEPENDENCE In what has become common place, the Newberg FFA will send a large group to compete at the organizations upcoming state convention after putting in a strong performance at the FFA sectional meet March 4 at Central High School.
Newberg produced three individual winners who will advance to the convention March 21-24 at Mountain View High School in Bend, including Margaret Halstead, who took first place in extemporaneous speaking.
Also winning were Madi Kuhn in advanced public speaking and Peter Gentile in beginning public speaking, while Johanna DeJoria placed second in job interview to advance as well.
Halstead will also compete at state with the Advance Parliamentary Procedure Team, as she, Tia Piscitelli, Madison Plummer, Kyle Lutze, Shelby Self, and Cayd Erickson won the sectional event and are now among the top four groups in the state.
DeJoria also competed in extemporaneous speaking, placing fourth, while Gentile, along with Katelynn Lane, Gage Hannan, Megan Brown, Kylie Duey and Israel Pintor, was part of the third-place beginning parliamentary procedure team.
Karissa Noragon also placed fourth in sophomore public speaking.
The recent group of state qualifiers will be joined in Bend by the Farm Business Management Team, as well as the Knowledge and Marketing teams, which qualified at the district meet.
McKenzie Halleman (goat production) and Katie Noragon (small animal production) will also compete after earning first place at districts for their projects, while Piscatelli won the district veterinary science work experience competition.
