Local artist selected for billboard art in Portland
Dayton resident Richard Thompson has been selected as one of 15 artists for Portland2014, a biennial event that celebrates artists who are defining and advancing contemporary art practices. Thompson is represented by Art Elements Gallery and will display his work on a billboard at Northeast Grand and Everett streets in Portland. St. Patricks Day at Provincial Dining
Red Hills Provincial Dining in Dundee will host a St. Patricks Day event including Irish music and an Irish-themed menu Friday. Music will start at 7 p.m. by Roughly Hewn and reservations are required. For more information, visit www.redhills-dining.com.
Newberg Public Library hosts gift of quilting presentation March 13
Coffee Creek Quilters are presenting on the gift of quilting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Newberg Public Library. The presentation is to inform the community how Coffee Creek Quilters teaches women in the Wilsonville Coffee Creek Corrections Facility to quilt. Currently the Coffee Creek Quilters have 80 women in the corrections facility making quilts, each woman makes three quilts in a year. The first two quilts each student makes are donated to various organizations, including hospitals and domestic violence shelters. They then get to keep the third quilt or gift it to a loved one. The program teaches the women to give back to their community. The presentation will be lead by Diane Campbell and Donna Gilbo.
Smith garden opens April 5
The Cecil and Molly Smith Garden will open April 5 for blooming season. The garden near St. Paul is known for its collection of species and hybrid rhododendrons. For more information, visit www.smithgarden.org.
Joint concert slated for March 20
