Dundee Garden Club Meeting rescheduled for Feb. 20

The Dundee Garden Club postponed its Feb. 6 presentation on “Methods of Controlling Gophers, Moles, and Field Mice,” presented by Don Sprague, a local gopher and mole trapper. Newberg Ducks Unlimited chapter slates conservation dinner and auction

The local chapter of Ducks Unlimited, a wetland and habitat conservation group, will hold its conservation dinner and auction at 5 p.m. March 1 at Chehalem Armory Center, 620 N. Morton St.

The group has held the annual fundraiser for the past 36 years and the event caters to outdoor enthusiasts with an opportunity to win prizes such as hunting and fishing packages, vacation opportunities, firearms and supplies, collectible art, unique outdoor merchandise as well as a “Ladies Table.”

Stop Smoking classes offered for the month of March

Providence Newberg Medical Center is providing smoking cessation classes. The class offers a systematic approach to quitting smoking through behavior modification techniques, coping skills, social support and weight management. Participants can apply for financial assistance by calling 503-216-5641. The registration fee for the classes costs $175 for non-Providence Health Plan members. ‘The Tree Man’ will speak at next YCSWA meeting in McMinnville

McMINNVILLE — The Yamhill County Small Woodlands Association and the OSU Extension Service will present OSU Forestry Extension Agent Steve Bowers on Feb. 26 in the auditorium at the OSU Yamhill Extension Office, 2050 N.E. Lafayette Ave. Bowers, otherwise known as “The Tree Man,” will speak on forest roads.

Social hour for the event begins at 6:30 p.m. with Bowers’ talk set to start at 7 p.m. Attendees need not be members of the woodlands association to attend.

Refreshments will be served and door prizes by Elmer Parker will be meted.

Old Fashioned Festival Court applications available

The Newberg Old Fashioned Festival is seeking high school juniors and seniors for its 2014 court.
