Historic holiday celebration scheduled December 7

The Friends of Historic Champoeg will host an old-fashioned holiday celebration Dec. 7. Costumed volunteers will lead holiday decoration craft making and the band Heartstrings will perform. There will also be baked goods and hot cider as well.

“Children and their families can experience a connection with the 19th century way of life,” said Corinne Flake, in charge of public programming for Friends of Historic Champoeg. “Early settlers didn’t have shopping malls, electric twinkle lights for the tree, or things we take for granted today, but they did enjoy the holidays just as much as we do.”

The event is free with a $5 Oregon State Parks and Recreation parking permit. It will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Champoeg State Heritage Area visitor center. For more information, visit www.champoeg.org.

Proceeds will go toward a variety of art programs, including providing artists with a stipend and funding art education grants, among others.
