Raffle benefits Henderson House

To benefit the Henderson House in McMinnville — a women’s shelter for those escaping abuse — Luminous Boutique Spa in Newberg is hosting a raffle during the month of October. Up for raffle is a Luminous Signature Package worth $250. To enter, donate a 24-pack of toilet paper and a monetary donation and receive two raffle tickets. Monetary donations can only be given in the form of a check, made out to Henderson House. The winner will be drawn Nov. 5. Luminous is aiming for at least 100 packs of toilet paper to donate.

City official will speak at next Newberg City Club luncheon

Barton Brierley, Newberg planning and building director, will speak on Newberg’s plans for the future in a luncheon set for noon Oct. 15 at Friendsview Springbrook Community Center, 4061 S.W. Hayes St.

SAR orientation set for Thursday in McMinnville

McMINNVILLE — The Yamhill County Search and Rescue team will hold an orientation from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Oct. 10 in the public works auditorium at the OSU Extension Building, 2060 Lafayette Ave. The orientation will include discussion of how searches are conducted, survival skills and more. The organization is also taking applications for the 2014 SAR Academy.

Concealed handgun license class set for Oct. 19

The Newberg Rifle and Pistol Club will conduct a concealed handgun training course from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at the club’s range, 15955 N.E. Quarry Road. Graduates of the class, which will include live-fire training with one-on-one coaching, will have fulfilled the requirements to apply for a Oregon concealed handgun license.

For additional fees, the graduate can also apply for a Utah, Arizona or Florida permit valid in more than 30 states. The class includes the required fingerprinting and passport-type photo. Participants will be registered when the club receives their fees, due by Oct. 14.
