Love INC focusing on hunger this month in the community
Ministry The breakfast and lunch kits the network of local church charities provides are in high demand at clearinghouse and shelter
Fighting hunger is a year-round battle, which is why Love INC (In the Name of Christ) provides its breakfast bags and sack lunch kits to individuals at its clearinghouse, as well as to women and children at the homeless shelter.
The demand is so high that Love INC goes through 500 such meals per month and why it is soliciting donations from the community this month.
Just hearing about the program was enough for one local youth to include gathering and assembling breakfast bags a part of his ninth birthday party. In addition to donating the completed kits, kids at the party also took some kits home to give to someone in need.
Donations for the breakfast bags and sack lunch kits juice boxes, granola bars, fruit cups, pop-top stew cans, spoons and napkins can be dropped off at the Love INC Clearinghouse anytime between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.
Love INCs top needs this month are delivery volunteers, shelter hosts and diapers for the diaper ministry at Joyful Servant Lutheran Church, which is calling for sizes 4, 5 and 6, as well as baby wipes.
Grace Baptist Church, which puts together personal care kits for Love INC, is in need of toothbrushes, deodorant and dental floss.
The kitchen set-up ministry at 2nd Street Community Church could use donations of pots and pans in good shape, silverware and cooking utensils.
Godsong Community Churchs Non-Food Pantry needs empty spray cleaning bottles, lotion, deodorant, shaving cream, body wash and shampoo.
The Clothes Closet at Seventh-day Adventist Church is requesting clothes for young boys ages 5 to 12, as well as underwear.
St. Peter Catholic Churchs Linen Closet is seeking donations of pillows, bath towels, full- and queen-size sheets and kitchen towels.
Love INCs relational ministry needs pocket calendars and manila file folders for its organizational class.
Meanwhile, two of Love INCs cold-weather programs the multi-church Hats, Umbrellas, Gloves and Scarves (HUGS) effort and homeless kit ministry are gearing up for winter, with hand warmers and sleeping bags needed specifically for the kits.
The next Love INC dinner club day, through which 10 percent of sales are donated from a local restaurant, will be held Oct. 15 at Pogys Subs.
