Police are investigating after an employee of a local gas station discovered a body Thursday morning in Newberg.
According to a press release from the Newberg-Dundee Police Department, an employee of the Texaco station at 1902 Portland Road discovered a white male adult dead at 7 a.m. in the area adjacent to the station where recyclables and a Dumpster are kept. It is believed the body was there less than six hours.
NDPD officers were dispatched to the site, which is comprised of a cinderblock enclosure with a gate.
"At this time detectives do not believe there is any foul play and there was nothing suspicious located at the scene," said NDPD Capt. Jeff Kosmicki. "We do not believe there is a danger to the general public or cause for alarm."
Kosmicki said the man was from Newberg and is known to police, who refrained from identifying him until family members can be notified. A deputy medical examiner responded to the scene and the Yamhill County district attorney's office was notified as well.
Kosmicki said there an autopsy won't be performed on the body, but declined to comment on the cause of death until results from a toxicology report are complete.
