Paper wins multiple awards in contest
The Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association recently awarded The Newberg Graphic with four separate awards at its 2014 Better Newspaper Contest.
It has been a few years since we entered anything and I was very happy that we continue to publish the best quality print newspaper possible, said Graphic publisher Allen Herriges. Without the work by our staff on the print side the digital wouldnt be possible.
The paper was ranked in a group alongside other like-sized newspapers based on amount of paid circulation. The entries were judged by the Indiana Press Association.
The Graphics awards included a third, second, and two first place rankings: Third-place for Best Coverage of Business and Economic Issues, second place for Best Page One Design, and first place for Best Feature Photo and Best Sports Photo.
Reporter Katy Sword was awarded the third place in the Best Coverage of Business and Economic Issues category for her series of articles on the closing of Evergreen Aviation.
Managing Editor Gary Allen was awarded second place in the Best Page One Design category for front page designs on Jan. 30 and May 29. He also won first place in the Best Feature Photo category for a portrait of 99W Drive-in owner Brian Francis.
Reporter Seth Gordon won first place in the Best Sports Photo category for a photo of Newberg High Schools Anthony Croteau at the 2013 Pacific Conference boys tennis district tournament.
